    Dear SWE Members and Friends,

While the Fall is a very busy time for all of us and our families, I would like to acknowledge our membership for their demonstrated commitment to our community. October provided many volunteer opportunities, and our members who represented PPS at convention brought back valuable information and participated in SWE policy decisions. Without this cooperative effort we would not be able to have such a positive influence or to provide support for our local members.

Our November meeting provides the chance to assist UCCS members with their interview skills. Since the student members represent quite a few disciplines, a good turnout from our section would ensure a well-rounded perspective. I always find it exciting to provide mentorship for new engineers, something I wished for when I started my career.

Please review the scheduled events and consider attending the Region I conference, which will be held in Colorado Springs in February. As always, your PPS officers ask for your suggestions and feedback regarding section activities.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

    Kathleen Watson

    Wasson High School Career Fair

    by Connie H. King

LeeAnn Racz, Bethany Trumble, Jennifer Vrynios and I represented the Society of Women Engineers at the October 29th Wasson High School Career Fair. We spoke to a number of students about careers in engineering. The students ranged from freshmen who told us they had no idea what they might be interested in to juniors and seniors who seemed focused on engineering. The high school principal and several teachers welcomed us to the career fair and expressed their appreciation of our involvement in career guidance activities.

CSWAT Luncheon and Benefit for "Dress for Success"

The CSWAT Board is working hard to bring together their 3rd Annual December Charity Luncheon to benefit the Colorado Springs chapter of Dress of Success!

The Charity and Year in Review Luncheon will be held on Monday, Dec 8th, 2003, 11:30 am - 1 pm, at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. They would like your help in getting donations for the Silent Raffle to be held the day of the luncheon. Typically they gather donations until the Friday before the luncheon, which is Dec 5th, this year. We are looking for ANY item, service, or certificate, for example: artistic, hand made items, certificates for food or lodging or entertainment, a free one-hour massage, a basket of soaps and bath products, etc. Really ANYTHING GOES, as long as it is tasteful and appropriate for women.

They are also looking for clothing donations for Dress for Success, who is in special need of larger or plus-size items, as well as accessories, such as belts or shoes, but they will take anything you have that is in good, wearable condition.

Donations for the Silent Raffle are to be coordinated with the Director of Special Projects, Tamara Swilley, at 333-7368 (days) or 686-8508 (eves).
