SWE-PPS and Local Companies Award Seven Scholarships

The 2008 PPS Scholarship Committee has awarded two $1000 and four $500 scholarships to six outstanding high school girls graduating from high schools across southern Colorado. We have also awarded a $500 scholarship to a deserving college sophomore. The 19 high school applicants included 4 Valedictorians and 2 Salutatorians. One applicant had a perfect score on the ACT Math test, another had a perfect on the SAT Math test, and one had a 5.0 GPA in both Math and Science. Of the 19 graduates, 11 had GPA's of 4.0 or higher in Math and Science. 5 were in the top 1% of their class, 5 more in the top 5%, and 5 more in the top 10% of their class. The lowest GPA reported was a solid 3.45.

The corporate sponsors who generously donated scholarship funds are Agilent Technologies, Inc, LSI Logic Corporation, ATMEL Corporation, G. E. Johnson Construction Company, Inc, and from Terracon Consultants, Inc.

Once again it was a tough choice for the committee and we were grateful for each and every sponsor who helped us to award as many of these excellent students as we could. We had a new record of three college applicants, all of whom were recommended by faculty and who were making excellent contributions to their universities. Congratulations to our winners and thank you to the committee members: Richelle Ahlvers, Connie King, Aimee Smith, and Wanda Williams; especially Connie who personally secured half of the sponsors this year.
