UCCS Girl's STEM

University of Colorado, Colorado Springs (UCCS) put on workshops during the Girl's STEM event on Friday, September 17, 2010. SWE members and others in the community volunteered to help teach girls concepts in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Girls from surrounding schools attended the workshops at UCCS. UCCS Programs Manager for the Center for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Education (CSTEME), Kathleen Fitzpatrick, M.S., summed up the Girl's STEM event, "...to spark that fire in our next generation of women engineers and scientists!"

Every workshop was different. Anna Sparks, P.E., SWE-PPS Newsletter Editor FY2011, and SWE-PPS member Patricia Booth co-lead the Battery Buggie workshop. The most interesting part of the Battery Buggie workshop was that every Battery Buggy was entirely original. The girls were given the individual parts and tools to construct their own Battery Buggy. Pictures taken during the Battery Buggie workshop follow.
